Twin Towers or what we are capable of doing

Twin Towers view from New Jersey, crossing the Hudson river

When trying to write a post for Instagram about the long gone Twin Towers of Manhattan, presenting relevant facts about the place -as I use to do-, I began to collect the pictures I had on that location. When looking at myself there more than 20 year ago I began to think how possible it was for anyone to be there that infamous day of September the 11th, 2001, in a nonsensical terrorist attack that any common person could have not expected.

(Below my reflection you will find few pictures about the World Trade Center taken between 1994 y 1995. I was there 3 times in the observation deck at the highest point of the south tower.)

It is incredible how the human being, capable of inventing planes, computers, space travel, the Twin Towers themselves and so many marvellous things can still have such primitive behaviours. 9/11 was a horrendous episode in history that had a huge media coverage, but there are other terrible things that have happened and keep happening -affecting as much or even much more people- that don’t reach as far in the public eye.

Sometimes I don’t keep this truths in mind and the fragility of life, so I complain about silly things of my everyday movements. Therefore, from time to time I have to reflect and make a reality check to enjoy in full the marvels of living in the fantastic country that is Spain, to which I will be eternally grateful for having me as an immigrant.

The idea is not to go to the other extreme and conform with everything. The thing is to keep searching for ways to contribute with my closest environment with any action that can make it better for me and the people that surrounds me.

Still, here some lines that I began to write about the history of the World Trade Center:

The disappeared Twin Towers of New York were inaugurated on April 1973. At that time they were the tallest buildings in the world (they did hold that title for some time). The complex had 7 towers in total, being the other 5 significantly smaller.

The north tower was 417 meters high, ascending to 530 meters when a telecommunication antenna was added in 1978. The 2 constructions had 110 usable floors.

Before 9/11 the major incidents where a fire on February 1975, a truck bombing on February 1993 and a bank robbery of 1.6 million US dollars on January 1998.

A dear friend and photography enthusiast with a nice camera made this shoots for me, but given that this is a sensitive topic I don’t post his name. All pics are done in old good classic analogue film and some of them were taken with disposable cameras.
