Teleportation is the transfer of matter or energy from one point to another without traversing the physical space between them. The ability to transport a person or object instantly from one place to another has changed the course of civilization and alter the destiny of nations.
It is a proprietary technology developed by Torana Inc. The details in how it works have been kept under high secrecy and no one has been able to create another version of the same science that makes it possible. The devices are heavily guarded in all their locations, to avoid back engineering. The only clear information is that it comes from a breakthrough in quantum mechanics and the obvious when you go through it, that it uses an accelerator in which cargo and passengers are displaced very fast along a 200 meters tunnel, limiting the size of what’s being transported.
The technique requires a pre established base in both ends, so at the moment it is only possible to be used to move all around the world and to few orbiting stations. Tests are being performed with inorganic matter between the earth and a station in the Moon’s surface.
Etymology
American writer Charles Fort is credited with having coined the word teleportation in 1931[4][5] to describe the strange disappearances and appearances of anomalies, which he suggested may be connected. As in the earlier usage, he joined the Greek prefix tele- (meaning “distant”) to the root of the Latin verb portare (meaning “to carry”).[6] Fort’s first formal use of the word occurred in the second chapter of his 1931 book Lo!:[7]
History
In 2066 the first experiments with inorganic matter began. Ten years later it was possible to teleport inorganic objects (and non-living organic derivatives) as big as terrestrial vehicle all around the world. Commercial operations began in 2082, although the military uses where implemented in 2074.
In 2085 began the organic matter tests with vegetables and two years later with animals. Secrecy was kept very high and no much information was made public until 2104, when it was announced that it was 100% reliable to teleport living organic matter. Then, the technology became mainstream and it changed the course of history.
Global Teleportation Act
Torana Inc. is the most powerful company in the world, sometimes more than many States, but the stay away from any political situation. The corporation serves every country in the world at the same fare and is free of any kind of restriction or blockade, regardless of the situation, as signed by all parties in an agreement called Global teleportation act of 2108.
According to the official document, Torana will never disclose information of any of the persons or cargos they move. The only restriction is that by all means no weapons of mass destruction can be transferred anywhere, unless it is 100% agreed by all countries exclusively for safety that involve any extraterrestrial forces, being it potential natural disasters or living beings.
Since the creation of the Planetary War Regulation of 2078, no war -nevermind how intense or even having illegal armies into them- has broken the permitted weaponry. That treaty guarantee no military intervention from any party if respected, more than providing supplies to any of the belligerent entities.
Given that there is no viable alternative, the company is never challenged and is believed to play a fair game.
Global Geopolitics
As a consequence of the World War IV (2065–2076), the Private Armies War, territories stayed fragmented for some time in many small to middle size countries.
Now, thanks to teleportation, many States have decided to group in the basis of language and common interests, regardless of the geographical location. They have decided voluntarily not to be independent anymore, but part of larger Nations, with their territories scattered around the globe in some cases.
The most powerful and biggest in population of this States is China, which now comprises most of Asia, including India, some countries in Latin America and Africa. China remains culturally the same as the in the previous century and all the anexionated territories have adapted to their beliefs.
The second most relevant State is the Romanic States of the World (RSOW), formed by Most of Latin America, including Brazil, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
Then we have the Commonwealth One Nation (CWON), formed by the association of most of the independent sovereign States once known as the -almost- namesake Commonwealth of Nations. The capital of the CWON is located in South Africa, as the territory was unaffected by the World Wars III and IV.
Fourth place is for Russia, which has also kept his name. Several States of the what was known as USSR long ago have become part of it.
In fifth place is France, which has grouped with some African states, the ones historically attached to the country.
The rest of the world have decided to keep independent with strategic alliances, specially in the Middle East, as they don’t feel any benefit in becoming part of bigger states.
This reorganization has made the planet to thrive again, after the consequences of the wars and the catastrophic consequences of global warming. Around 20% of the territory of the world is still uninhabitable. Population was 9.1 billions in 2040, decreasing to its lowest peak in 2079 with 5.9 billion, increasing to 6.5 billions in 2112 last estimates.
The use of teleportation and the green energies have improved in a dramatic way the path that weather condition is taking, although most of the damage is irreparable. It is more likely certain that the planet may evolve to a better situation, but will never be the same. Between other measures, commercial flight has been banned since 2108.
